From the sublime to the ridiculous - maybe. It's not going to occur this year, but Cruz Bay could be 'swimming' in gasoline stations one day.
That's because there are plans afoot to build several new service stations including one along the Southside Road, near the Westin.
According to the St. John Source, a St. Thomas resident wants to build the service station on his land just west (closer to Cruz Bay) of the shopping center which is home to St. John Market.
The island has has only one operating gas station, E&C in Cruz Bay. But now, the Planning and Natural Resources Department is reviewing this new proposal.
DPNR is also weighing plans for a service station and convenience store on Centerline Road, where there used to be a concrete plant.
Further, The Inquiring Iguana remembers reading a report a few weeks ago which indicated yet another gas station may begin operating. The story said that Robert O'Connor, who used to operate the Texaco in Cruz Bay, had been approved to lease land for him to open a new station.
Time will tell.
