In case you’re doing some cash flow planning, it doesn’t appear likely that the government’s going to be asking for property tax payments anytime soon.
During a federal District Court hearing last week, Judge Curtis Gomez made no move to indicate he’s ready to lift the injunction against the government issuing bills for the 2006, 2007, and 2008 taxes using new assessment valuations.
Gomez did schedule a hearing for next month to evaluate how responsive the VI’s have been to the Court’s demand that an efficient and rapid tax appeal system be in operation. The Court has indicated it is not about to lift the injunction until it is satisfied appeals can be heard in 120 days. That finding has not yet been made.So, it’s possible the government won't have a due date for property tax payments until 2010.
