Previously, a biweekly, black-and-white newsprint publication, the St. John Sun Times has bulked up and blossomed into a four-color monthly guide to the island.
It looks better, is easier to read, and even feels better (thicker paper!).
With a more relaxed production schedule, “You can look forward to a more in-depth, more thoughtful kind of writing about life in the Virgin Islands,” said Ella Anderson, the owner, publisher, editor, and Chief Morale Officer.
The January issue, free at distribution points and businesses all over the island, features photography, columns, stories and thoughts produced by staff as well as 26 contributing writers. designers and photographers. And it shows.
In the 20 months she’s owned the paper, Anderson, has dealt with the frustrations any new business owner faces by thinking positively.
“Always Free. Always Positive,” is in fact the motto of her magazine. And that kind of attitude is obvious in the paper’s pages. She's managed to tap into the island and its real people, making the paper a conversation about St. John's strengths, challenges, and hopes.
The new Sun Times features color, it seems, on every page. The real estate ads look sensational!. The “Shiny Tings” page shows off some of the island’s favorite things to buy, and a story about a bird feeder should persuade you take one of those home, too. The Restaurant Directory and Activities Calendar, from which The Inquiring Iguana occasionally steals listings, is a must-have for any visitor. The ‘Cheap Sheet’ will point you to things like the Friday Special at Sandi’s BBQ and free WiFi.
