The location of a new K-12 education complex on St. John was the subject of a meeting between Gov. Charles Turnbull and a group that is encouraging the government to swap land for such a facility. Turnbull said he thinks the time is right, according to a report by the Virgin Islands Daily News. "This is the best time we can strike a deal with the National Park Service, he told the group, One Campus.
The governor said the government is considering trading cays it owns off St. John for, possibly, 10 acres in Catherineberg. The VI cays total only three acres, while 10 acres is generally required for an elementary school. Turnbull warned, "We're going to have to give them something. They're not going to give us a dollar for a dime."
