Ken Lay's passing generated blogger postings which were both angry as well as philosophic.
Warren Ellis returns wrote, "Ken Lay once said, “We believe God is in fact in control and indeed he does work all things for good for those who love the Lord.' There are so many different ways to take that, today." Another person wrote on another blog, "A lot of people are saying he got off too easy." While a furious commenter said, "Dear old Ken had to go and DIE and escape the punishment of his multi-million dollar crimes that he deserved ten-fold. Not to mention that he died at his vacation home. Why the hell did this man still have a vacation home?"
None of the Web's most popular political blogs had much to say or pass along from readers. Other than posting items from CNN about Lay's death, DailyKos.com, PowerLine.com, Glenn Reynolds' Instapundit.com, and RealClearPolitics.com were mum.
The story was big news, though. It ranked among the most popular at NYTimes.com, was most viewed at Yahoo News, and was #1 at the new Netscape news portal.
Two blog portals of partisan opinions had widely differing reactions. There were hundreds of comments on HuffingtonPost.com, including, "If every CEO/Cob who pilfered money illegally or sold while pumping his stock died suddenly there would be lots of empty board rooms," and "He was probably murdered so the secrets wouldn't spill!" While Pajamas Media.com had one logger comment and one link to a news story.
