Celebrating the 4th in Maine

The small communities have 4th of July parades. 

Great parades. In Wiscasset, ours lasted an hour. 

Churches, the Scouts, businesses, fire trucks, old cars that haven't been out of Grandma's garage all year, dogs everywhere ... it's a hoot.

In neighboring Round Pond, they have a parade, too.  The New York Times reports it's something special.  Read the article.

True to this luxurious property's name, enormous boulders are scattered around the residence and newly-uncovered ledge rock and greenery border the front and back. The large contemporary/farm house was completed in September.

RiverRocks is tastefully furnished with an eclectic mix of antique trunks and toys, oriental rugs, a charming Provencal oak dining table and hutch, sinfully comfortable beds, leather chairs and relaxed sofas. 

The gourmet kitchen is appointed with designer cabinets, stainless steel appliances: 25 cu. ft. refrigerator, stove, built-in microwave, dishwasher and disposal.  African granite counter tops with a center island and built-in bar serve as a gathering point for entertaining.  There is also a washer/dryer on the first floor.

The dramatic living room features a fireplace surrounded by a wall of rugged stone.  There is also a stereo, DVD player, CD player, music and movie library, and a 42" plasma HDTV. The dining room accommodates six people around a distressed wood French family table.

Rocking chairs invite you to sit a spell on the front porch where you can sip a glass of wine and wait for the wild turkeys to waddle by.

A screened porch offers has a river view and is a quiet place for a late afternoon siesta.  The 60-foot-long sun deck offers views of the Sheepscot River as you may enjoy a glass of wine. You can also explore and hike the grounds, see the namesake river rocks (!).  You can also relax in the Adirondack chairs to read a book, watch the lobster men check their traps, or muse on the flow  of the tide.

There are three large bedrooms, each with new, king-sized pillow-top mattresses.  The second floor bedrooms have traditional white iron bed frames and the first floor master bedroom has a sleigh bed.  Each offer restful slumber, to be broken only in the morning perhaps by a gaggle of wild turkeys crossing the lawn as a morning wake up call.  Each bedroom has a remote-controlled ceiling fan and full bath and/or shower. The master bath has a Jacuzzi tub and enclosed tile-benched shower.  A fourth shower and guest bathroom is located on the first floor as well.

On the second floor, there is also a special cozy family room. With a stereo, but no TV, it is a perfect place to be quiet and for rest, even while others in your group may be chatting and relaxing on the first floor.

Even though you're in Maine, you won't be out of touch.  The property is less than two miles from the town.  A convenience store, three minutes away. gets national, New York, and Boston newspapers every morning, seven days a week. The house also has Time Warner Cable, high speed Internet, and Wi-Fi.
