Just when it appeared Dave Winer was being intransigent about making money in the blogosphere and the podosphere, he's selling commercials Set to speak at the Syndicate conference in two weeks, and not being paid a fee, the developer of RSS, podcasting, outliners, and so much more announced his speech could contain paid plugs
"I can't guarantee what I'll say about you or your company, but I do promise to mention you and will thank you for picking up my travel expenses for the New York trip," he wrote on one of his blogs. "I can be a crass commercial whore with the best of them," he added.
Winer said his conference remarks will be in somewhat the same money-focused vein. "Mostly I expect to talk about how to make money on the Internet, how everything is flipped around, and why the level playing field of RSS shouldn't be overlooked."
Winer's self sell-promotion comes on the heels of news stories over the last few weeks in the Wall Street Journal (owned by my employer, Dow Jones) that various consumer electronics gadget reviewers have taken fees for promoting products and some of the nation's best-known chefs are also in business with food suppliers, kitchen equipment manufacturers, and wineries.
I hope Dave podcasts his speech --- maybe for a fee?
Stay tuned.
I'll pay $100 for Dave not to speak...
