TV in 2005

Brian Stelter at TVNewser.com was kind enough to ask what television picture I see for next year.  Well ...

2005 will be the beginning of Video on demand.  No!  Not THAT VOD, where you need a cable box and a TV set and a comfy chair.  All you'll need is a VideoPod.

ApplelogoSome smart hacker is going to torture Apple's IPod into it.  Engadget's Phillip Torrone has taken the first step, including pictures with Podcasts.  It can't be much of a stretch to go to video - limiting factor is probably the chip in the IPod - but Moore's Law will take care of that, right?

Bottom line:  Just as the IPod has replaced my in-car listening to AM and FM and, in fact is also obliterating my XM Radio usage, it's going to have me watching more video ... as I wait for appointments, in line at the Post office, whatever.

Smart TV broadcasters will follow the leads of Seattle's KOMO Radio and Boston's WGBH-FM and begin re-purposing their newscasts for a VideoPod.  Radio guys do the cool things, first.

Bet on Fox to do it first for TV.
